Perimeter tape on umbrellas, also known as rib tape, offers a unique customisation that only few umbrella manufacturers can offer. Perimeter tape is sewn to the perimeter of the umbrella (the bottom edges of the umbrella panels). Rib tape is sewn to the ribs of the umbrella (the frame that holds the panels of the umbrella). Rib tape on umbrellas is usually in a contrasting colour to the umbrella panel.
Both umbrella perimeter tape and umbrella rib tape can be Pantone matched to suit your brand guidelines. This design feature really helps to bring a design together. This technique is particularly effective when combined with an all-over internal canopy print. For example, a Pantone-matched red internal umbrella canopy print, with external perimeter and rib tape in the same Pantone reference.
This process is more time intensive and is manufactured in our far east factories. Colour matched umbrella tape can be applied to the ribs and/or perimeter of the umbrella, depending on the specifications of the design. Additionally, we are not limited to one colour of tape. We have the capacity to include more than one colour of tape per rib, or per panel.
The overall finish is very high quality, and this technique can be extended to umbrella sleeves and carry cases for umbrellas. Perimeter tape and colour matched rib tape can be applied to the edges of a carry case or umbrella sleeve to compliment the brand logo and overall colour palette. This technique is especially effective on our City Walker Pro and Wood Walker umbrellas.
Umbrella customisation that includes perimeter tape, or taped ribs, can be applied to order quantities as small as 100pcs. For orders less than this (50pcs) this customisation effect can be replicated in the form of digital print. This effect is achieved and interpreted through print, instead of being sewn on.
