This project was part of a comprehensive merchandise initiative that included custom-made Pantone matched umbrellas, bags, and clothing, all designed to align with the client’s contemporary brand guidelines.
We offered several main umbrella styles for this project, including Golf, Wood Walker, City Walker, and Telescopic (folding) umbrellas. The client selected the City Walker Pro for its sleek and contemporary design, featuring a black shaft, soft-feel crook handle, and gunmetal fittings.
The City Walker Pro, as its name suggests, is ideally suited for urban environments, navigating crowded spaces and busy streets with ease. This Pantone matched umbrella boasts a two-layer canopy, known as a double canopy, allowing the client to provide distinct designs for both the exterior and interior. The outer canopy is black with white logos printed on two panels, while the inner canopy is Pantone matched to the client’s brand colour guidelines, featuring a digitally printed dotted pattern across the panels.
The City Walker Pro model is a contemporary take on the traditional wood walker umbrella, boasting gunmetal finishes and a curved silicone handle. The umbrella ribs are robust and storm-proof tested, ensuring durability in adverse weather conditions. The inner canopy is Pantone matched to a vibrant orange, adorned with a repeated polka dot pattern that is meticulously matched at the seams for a seamless, continuous print.
Manufacturing an umbrella process
- Design and Planning:
- Client Consultation: We begin by consulting with the client to understand their specific requirements, including design preferences, Pantone colour matching, and any custom features.
- Design Approval: Our design team creates detailed mock-ups of the umbrella, including the exterior and interior canopy designs. These designs are reviewed and approved by the client.
- Material Sourcing:
- Fabric Selection: We use high-quality, durable pongee which is a polyester, for the umbrella canopies. For the City Walker Pro, this includes materials that can withstand stormy weather conditions.
- Component Procurement: We acquire all necessary components, such as the black shafts, gunmetal fittings, robust ribs, and curved silicone handles.
- Printing:
- Exterior Canopy: The outer canopy is printed with the client’s logo on two panels. This involves precise screen printing to ensure the logos are clear and durable.
- Interior Canopy: The inner canopy is Pantone matched to the client’s specified orange colour. A repeated polka dot pattern is digitally printed, ensuring the pattern matches seamlessly at the seams.
- Assembly:
- Frame Construction: The umbrella frame, including the ribs and shaft, is assembled. The robust ribs are storm-proof tested to ensure durability.
- Canopy Attachment: The printed canopies are carefully attached to the frame. The double canopy design requires meticulous alignment to ensure both layers fit perfectly.
- Quality Control:
- Inspection: Each umbrella undergoes a thorough inspection to check for any defects in printing, assembly, or materials.
- Testing: The umbrellas are tested for functionality, including opening and closing mechanisms, and storm-proof capabilities.
- Packaging and Distribution:
- Packaging: The finished umbrellas are packaged according to the client’s specifications, often including branded packaging.
- Distribution: We coordinate the logistics for shipping the umbrellas to the client, ensuring timely and safe delivery.
